Manage Family Map privacy

Family Map only works because everyone in your Circle trusts what's shared and what isn't. Here's exactly how that's wired.

Off by default. Always.

A new Circle has Family Map turned off. A new account has personal sharing turned off. Nothing changes until you change it. See Turn on Family Map for the two-gate enable flow.

One-tap off

Open Settings, find Family Map, flip Share my location off. The moment you do that:

• Your last known position is deleted from every Circle you're in.
• Your full position history is deleted from every Circle.
• An audit event is recorded against every Circle so Coordinators see a clean trail.

If a Coordinator disables Family Map for the whole Circle, the same thing happens for every member at once: every position, every history row, gone.

What we store while sharing is on

• Last known position — one row per member per Circle, overwritten each time you report.
• Recent history — kept for 7 days, then deleted by a daily cleanup. Used so the family can see "she got home at 4pm" later in the day.
• Battery percentage — only if you've turned on Share my battery.
• Consent timestamp — when you first turned sharing on. This is the proof of consent and is checked on every read and write.

Who can see you

Only Coordinators and Support Members of the same Circle. Check-in Members never see the map. Nothing leaves your Circle. Getwello staff don't browse position data; access is via audited admin tools only when you ask us for help.

Battery alerts

If you've opted in to Alert my Circle when my battery is low, the family gets one notification when your phone first drops below your threshold (default 10%). Bouncing 9% → 11% → 9% won't re-fire — your phone has to recover to 30% before another alert is possible. So the family hears once, not five times.

The audit trail

Every change shows up in the Circle's History page:

• Family Map turned on or off for the Circle
• Each member turning sharing on or off
• Battery threshold or settings updates
• Places created, edited or removed
• Arrivals at and departures from saved Places

Coordinators can open History at any time and see the full record. There's nothing hidden.
