Add and manage Places
Save Home, Work, the GP and other meaningful spots so the map shows 'at the gym' instead of a pin.
A Place is a saved location — Home, Work, the GP surgery, the gym, a friend's house. When someone in your Circle is inside the radius of a Place, the map labels them with the Place name instead of raw coordinates. "Mum · at home, 14:32" is more useful than a pin in a street.
Add a Place
- Open Places from the app menu (or the Family Map page).
- Tap Add a place.
- Pick a category: Home, Work, School, Gym, Medical, Shops, Park, Friends, or Other.
- Give it a name. If you chose Other, the name is the only label — pick something the family will recognise.
- Drop the pin on the map (or use your current location).
- Choose a radius from 30m to 1,000m. 100m is a good default for a house, 150m for a gym or office.
Who can add what
- Anyone in the Circle can add their own Places. A Support Member adding their gym creates a personal Place visible to the Circle when they're checking in remotely.
- Coordinators can also add Circle-wide Places — typically the Check-in Member's Home and GP. These are the anchor points everyone in the family sees.
Editing and removing
Tap any Place in the list to rename, recategorise, move the pin, or change the radius. The owner of a Place can always edit or delete it; Coordinators can edit anyone's.
Tips
- Set up Home first. It's the Place that matters most.
- Bigger radius isn't always better. A 500m radius around a house in a town will overlap the road, the corner shop and the neighbours.
- The category drives the icon on the map. Pick the closest match — there's no right answer for "the dog walker" so use Other and name it well.
