Account & data

Delete your Getwello account.

This page covers how to permanently delete your Getwello account and the personal data associated with it. Getwello is a UK-built family wellbeing app, operated by Dean O'Meara (the developer name shown on Google Play and the App Store). You can request deletion at any time, free of charge, without giving a reason.

How to request deletion

Pick whichever path is easiest for you. Each one results in the same outcome.

  1. 1

From the Getwello web app (any device — phone, tablet or computer, instant)

    1. Open getwello.co.uk/login in any browser and sign in.
    2. Open Settings from the navigation menu.
    3. Scroll to the Delete account section at the bottom of the page.
    4. Tap Delete my account and confirm.
    5. Your account and data are removed immediately and you're signed out. No further action is needed.
  2. 2

By email (works from any device, including if you can no longer sign in)

    1. Send an email to hello@getwello.co.uk with the subject Delete my account.
    2. Send the email from the address on your Getwello account so we can verify it's you. You don't need to include any other personal details.
    3. We acknowledge the request within 2 working days and complete the deletion within 7 working days (and always within the 30-day UK GDPR limit).
    4. You'll receive a confirmation email when the deletion is complete. After that, your data cannot be recovered.
If you are the sole Coordinator of a family Circle: deleting your account also deletes the Circle and removes data for every other member of that Circle (their visit history, check-ins, photos, voice notes, family-room messages). If you want the Circle to continue without you, promote another family member to Coordinator first (Settings → Members → Make Coordinator), then delete your account.

What gets deleted immediately

When your deletion request is processed, the following data is permanently removed from our servers within seconds. None of it is recoverable afterwards.

  • Your profile

Display name, profile photo, email address, timezone, accessibility settings.

  • Your login credentials

Password hash, OAuth tokens (if you signed in with Apple or Google), session tokens.

  • Your devices

Push notification tokens for every iPhone, Android phone, or browser you signed in on. After deletion you receive no further notifications from us.

  • Your check-ins

Every 'I'm well' tap you ever made, including the timestamps and any mood follow-ups.

  • Your notifications inbox

Every notification ever delivered to you and every read receipt.

  • Companion-mode content you created

Voice notes you recorded, photos you sent, hellos you posted, call requests you raised. Underlying files in storage are deleted alongside the database rows.

  • Family-room messages you posted

Removed from the thread for everyone, including the original message body — the soft-delete tombstone reads 'deleted' rather than your name.

  • Family Map data

Your last reported position, your seven-day position trail, your saved Places (Home, GP, gym, etc.), your sharing preferences and consent record.

  • Your Stripe subscription

Any active Stripe subscription you were paying for is cancelled at the same time, so we stop charging you immediately. (App Store / Play Store subscriptions must be cancelled separately — see below.)

What is kept, and for how long

UK GDPR allows a small amount of data to be retained for specific lawful purposes after a deletion request. For Getwello, that is limited to the items below. Wherever possible the data is anonymised rather than retained in identifiable form.

  • Anonymised activity in shared Circles

If you scheduled a visit, sent an invite, or triggered an audit event in a Circle that other family members are still using, the record of the action stays in their Circle history so they can still see what happened that day. Your name, photo and any link back to your account is removed — the row reads 'a former member' instead.

Retention: As long as the Circle exists. If the Circle is deleted (e.g. the last member leaves), the row is deleted with it.

  • Account security audit log

A short security log of significant account events (signup, password change, account deletion). Used only for fraud investigation and to respond to ICO / law-enforcement requests. Contains your former email and the deletion timestamp.

Retention: Seven years from the deletion date, then permanently deleted.

  • Payment and billing records

Receipts, invoices and refund records held by Stripe, our payments processor. Required for HMRC and UK tax purposes. We never delete these on Stripe's side; their own retention policy applies.

Retention: Seven years (UK tax retention requirement under the Finance Act).

  • Encrypted database backups

Our database provider (Supabase) takes nightly encrypted backups of the entire database for disaster-recovery. Your data may briefly remain in a backup snapshot after the live deletion, but is not accessible by any Getwello employee and is overwritten on the backup's rotation schedule.

Retention: Up to 30 days, then automatically and permanently overwritten.

For the full legal basis of these retention periods, see our privacy policy. You always have the right to lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.

If you subscribed via the App Store or Google Play

Most Getwello subscribers are billed directly by us (through Stripe), and deleting your account cancels that subscription automatically. If you happened to start your subscription through Apple's App Store or Google Play instead, you also need to cancel it in the relevant store's subscription settings. We don't have permission to cancel App Store or Play Store subscriptions on your behalf.

Still have a question?

Email hello@getwello.co.uk and we'll come back to you within two working days. If you'd like to look at the wider data policy first, our privacy policy covers everything we collect, why, and the lawful basis we rely on.
