Why this one matters

Voice-first, on the device you already carry.

01

Voice on every Apple device

Siri on your watch, your phone, your Mac, even your AirPods. Same question, same answer.

02

Reads back on the watch

Raise the watch, ask the question. The status arrives on your wrist in a few seconds. No phone needed.

03

Share with the family in one tap

Shortcuts are a single iCloud link. Build one, share the link, every iPhone in the family has the same setup.

04

Automatic, not just on-demand

Personal Automations trigger the shortcut at a specific time, when you arrive home, when you connect AirPods. Set once, forever.

The flow, in your hand

The check-in answer, before the kettle boils.

The Shortcut makes two HTTPS calls, parses the JSON and asks Siri to read it. From your watch, that round trip takes 2-3 seconds total. Faster than unlocking the phone, faster than opening the app, faster than scrolling to find the right tile.

  • Authorization header carries your API key.
  • Standard REST endpoints, nothing exotic.
  • Add to Siri, Home Screen, Apple Watch and CarPlay.
  • Wrap in a Personal Automation for the morning check.
How to set it up

The high level. Full walkthrough in the help guide.

  1. 01
    Step 1 of 4

    Mint a Getwello API key.

Open Settings → Developer API on the web as a Coordinator. Name the key 'Apple Shortcuts'. Copy the gw_live_ token.

  2. 02
    Step 2 of 4

Open Shortcuts and build the first call.

Tap +, name it 'Mum status'. Add 'Get Contents of URL' pointing at /api/v1/circles with the Authorization header set to Bearer gw_live_yourkey.

  3. 03
    Step 3 of 4

Parse the response and fetch the check-in.

Use Get Dictionary Value to extract the Circle ID, then a second Get Contents of URL for the latest check-in. Final action: Speak Text.

  4. 04
    Step 4 of 4

Add to Siri, Home Screen and Apple Watch.

Long-press the shortcut. Add to Siri for voice, Add to Home Screen for one-tap, Show on Apple Watch for the wrist. Now you have all three.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to be a developer to set this up?

No, but the first shortcut takes about 20 minutes of careful clicking. The help article includes a downloadable shortcut you can install in one tap, paste your API key into and use immediately. The 'build your own' route is for anyone who wants more control.

Will it work on my Apple Watch alone, without my iPhone?

Yes, on watchOS 10 and later, Shortcuts can run independently on the watch. Earlier versions relay through the iPhone, which is also fine as long as the phone has Wi-Fi or cellular.

How fast is Siri's response?

Usually 1-3 seconds depending on connection. The Shortcut makes one or two HTTPS requests and Siri reads the result. Faster than opening the Getwello app and looking at the dashboard.

Can I trigger this automatically every morning?

Yes. iOS Personal Automations let you trigger any Shortcut at a specific time, when you arrive home, when you connect AirPods. Configure once, it runs forever.

Does it work on Mac?

Yes, the same Shortcut runs on Mac. You can also assign it to a global keyboard shortcut, or trigger it from the menu bar via Raycast or Alfred.

Pair this with another.

Some families wire two or three at the same time. The webhook fans out, the API keys stay the same.
